Jacksonville Florida Dames Point Cable Bridge over St. John’s River

Friday, July 10th, 2009

This is a video of one of the most famous bridges in Jacksonville, Florida.  This bridge is a cable-stayed bridge which was built to span the St. John’s River in 1989.  It is 1,300 feet long and 175 feet high.  While Jacksonville & Orange Park residents lovingly refer to this bridge as the “Dames Point Bridge”, it officially has a different name.  During the 4 year construction of the bridge, it didn’t have a name.  Since it was being built on “Dames Point”, it became known as the Dames Point Bridge.  The official and scarcely heard name of the bridge is actually the “Napolean Bonepart Broward Bridge”, named after the 19th governor of the State of Florida.  Here is a video depicting a trip across the famous bridge.  Enjoy.
